Gary Ellsworth Hollon, 89, formerly of Kirksville, passed away September 20, 2026, at LaBelle Manor Care Center, LaBelle, Missouri.

The son of Paul and Marcella (Hodges) Hollon, he was born December 29, 1936, in Milan, Missouri. On January 4, 1958, in Kirksville, he was united in marriage to Dainie Irene Murphy.

Gary is survived by his wife Dainie, a daughter, Milene Mittelhauser of Sedalia, two grandsons, Davis Mittelhauser and wife Kayla, and Cooper Mittelhauser, all of Sedalia, and three great-grandchildren, Noah, Della and Autumn Mittelhauser.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepfather, Miles Clark.

Gary lived in many places while growing up as his stepfather worked as a Railway Express agent. He talked about living in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, St. Louis, Missouri, Cairo, Illinois, and Detroit, Michigan. He moved to Kirksville during his late teenage years and lived with his grandmother, Lena Tunnell.

His main line of work was as a mechanic and he worked at Wright’s Tire and Appliance, before opening his own business, Gary’s Super Shell in 1976. He provided mechanic services there until his retirement in 1998. He received his GED in Kirksville.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Kirksville. He enjoyed cars, car racing, camping and fishing.

Gary has been cremated and services will be held at a later date. Arrangements were taken care of by Travis-Noe Funeral Home of Kirksville.
