Donald Dean Potter, 91, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2026 at Macon Health Care in Macon, Missouri.
Donald was born November 18, 1934 in Kirksville, Missouri the son of the late Peter David and Iona (Rogers) Potter. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy Gay in 2000; a child in infancy; six sisters, Lois, Louise, Bonney, Ioda, Lorene, and Gloria as well as four brothers, James, Pete, Danny, and Lawrence.
On March 9, 1956 in Kirksville, Missouri, Donald was united in marriage to Ruth "Arlene" Dupree who survives. He is also survived by his son, Larry Dean Potter of Kirksville, MO.
Donald was a graduate of Kirksville High School with the Class of 1952 and attended Kirksville Teacher's College. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After returning home he worked at McGraw Edison until receiving a job from the Post Office in January of 1965. There he was supervisor over fifty employees. He also acted as Postmaster for Post Offices that were waiting to be filled in Unionville, Marshall, and Kirksville. Donald retired after twenty-five years of service as a level E-11 on February 2, 1990.
Donald enjoyed deer hunting, collecting coins, guns, and fixing old cars.
Public visitation will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2026 from 10:00 to 12:00 p.m. funeral service at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Pastor Alan Coonfield officiating. Interment will follow the service at Green Castle Cemetery in Green Castle, Missouri.
