Phyllis Ann (Ledford) Roop, 85, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at The Pines in Kirksville.

The daughter of the late Clarence Ledford and Reva Beatrice (Owings) Ledford Smith, she was born June 18, 1938 near Morelock in rural Adair County Missouri. On August 4, 1957 in Kirksville, Missouri, Phyllis was united in marriage to James Roop who preceded her in death on July 7, 2018. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Donna Belle; one brother, Randy Ledford; sisters-in-law, Judy Ballinger and Patsy Ledford; and a special niece, Sheila Martin.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Rick Billington of Kirksville, MO; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Leland and Fran Ledford of Atkinson, IL, Ronnie (Virginia) Ledford of Green Castle, MO, Owen and Helen Ledford of Novinger, MO, Orin and Joyce Ledford of Green Castle, MO, and Bill and Cindy Smith of Iowa City, IA; her brother-in-law, Ora Ballinger of Novinger, MO; two grandchildren, Nick (Jenny) Billington, and Ashlyn (Jacob Brown) Billington all of Kirksville, MO; seven great-grandchildren, Justin, Kelsea, Hailey, Easton, Carson, Elijah, and Olivia; as well as a number of nieces and nephews, whom she love like her own children.

Phyllis was a graduate from Novinger High School with the class of 1955. She resided in rural Kirksville for the last sixty years. Phyllis was a dedicated homemaker, wife, and caregiver. She enjoyed painting, gardening, cooking, rock hunting in the creeks, riding her golf cart, and yard work. Spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was priceless to her. Phyllis loved days with her sister-in-laws playing marbles, shopping and going to Cantrill Iowa to the stores.

Phyllis attended Hamilton Street Baptist Church and later the Novinger Baptist Church.

Phyllis has been cremated and a memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2023 with Pastor Darrell Crooks officiating. Family will receive friends for one hour before the service in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Memorial donations in memory of Phyllis may be made to St. Judes Children's Hospital or to the Novinger Baptist Church and may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
