Coe Elaine (Ford) Werts, 76, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.

Born July 21, 1945 in St. Louis, Missouri, Coe was the daughter of the late Cecil Ray and Coe Ailene (Wells) Ford. In 1964 Coe was united in marriage to Neil Travis and to this union one daughter, Maricoe, was born. In 1986 in Ft. Myers, FL, Coe married Dwaine Werts who preceded her in death on June 14, 2008. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Jay and Georgia Mae Ford, and Greg Ford.

Coe is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Maricoe (Travis) and Scott Proctor of Kirksville, MO; step-daughter and son-in-law, Laura (Werts) and Keith Woerner of Punta Gorda, FL, two grandchildren, Gretchen (Justin) Tilman of Kirksville, MO, and Kade Proctor of Kansas City, MO; three great-grandchildren, Olive, Tucker, and Tate Tilman of Kirksville, MO; one brother and sister-in-law, David and Marilyn Ford of Moberly, MO; sister-in-law, Nancy Ford of Wichita, KS; sister-in-law, Pamela Ford of O'Fallon, MO; two uncles, Richard Buck of Kirksville, MO, and Grayle Harris of St. Cloud, FL; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Coe attended school in Atlanta, Missouri where she was a graduate of Atlanta High School with the Class of 1963. She then attended Northeast Missouri State Teacher's College where she received a degree of B.S. in Education in 1971. In 1983 Coe would graduate from Northeast Missouri State University with a Master of Arts degree in Counseling and Guidance. Coe's first teaching opportunity came in 1973 with the Adair County-Novinger R-I school district as a Kindergarten teacher. She taught three years in Novinger, then moved to Bloomfield, Iowa where she taught 5th and 6th grade Social Studies for seven years. Coe then become the Elementary Guidance Counselor for the Davis County Elementary School and remained in this position until retiring in June of 2002. Coe and Dwaine then moved to Punta Gorda, Florida where they enjoyed retirement for several years. After Dwaine's passing, Coe moved back to Kirksville, Missouri to be near family and friends until her recent passing.

Coe was a huge supporter of education, music, and the Arts. She was a member of the Davis County Community Theater, where she participated in several plays and musicals throughout her years in Bloomfield. She was often asked to sing at weddings, funerals, church services and many other special occasions, but her favorite singing was done with her family. Coe enjoyed nothing more than a huge family get together with the Ford and Wells crew, singing, playing music, and praising the Lord for hours.

Coe was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Kirksville, Missouri, and felt much comfort, peace and love within the congregation.

Coe has been cremated and a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
