Mickey Walter Hays, 62, of Hurdland, Missouri, passed away Monday, January 24, 2022 at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

Born September 28, 1959 in Unionville, Missouri, Mickey was the son of the late John Walter "J.W." and Melba Alice (Mullenix) Hays. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Britt Hays on February 19, 2014. On October 1, 2007 in LaPlata, Missouri, Mickey was united in marriage to Christina Dobbs.

Mickey is survived by his wife, Christina Hays of fourteen years; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Ronni Hays of Kirksville, MO, and Andrew and Julie Aunna Hays of Blue Springs, MO; one daughter, Candice Hays of Kansas City, MO; three step-children, Rachel (Colton) Peavler of Ft. Leavenworth, KS, Riley Poston of Edina, MO, and Megan (Daniel) England of Hurdland, MO; sister-in-law, Jane Hays of Macon, MO; seven grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

Mickey was a graduate from Atlanta High School with the Class of 1977. At the age of 13, Mickey worked alongside his father J.W. at the lumber yard in Atlanta until 1988 when he began management of P.E. Jepson in Kirksville.

Mickey enjoyed hunting, fishing, Go Kart racing, NASCAR races, following the Kansas City Chiefs, and enjoyed bench rest competitive shooting. He also enjoyed Missouri Legends Poker on Thursday night and Friday night poker at the Hurdland Community Center.

Mickey was a member of the El Kadir Shrine Club, LaPlata Masonic Lodge, was president of Show Me Go Kart Speedway, and Vice President of Union Temple Church where he was a member.

A Masonic service will begin at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2022 with family receiving friends following until 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Travis-Noe Funeral Home with Pastor Alan Saoirse-Whittom officiating. Interment at sunset will follow the service at Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Swallow, Josh Swallow, Eric Van Sickel, Shannon Weber, David Delaney, and Bubba Withrow.

Memorial donations in memory of Mickey may be made to his favorite charity, St. Judes Children's Hospital and may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
