Doris Ilene (Helton) Atchley, 86, of Novinger, Missouri, passed away peacefully, Monday, May 3, 2021 at her home under the care of Hospice of Northeast Missouri, surrounded by family.

The daughter of the late Ovel and Edna Marie (Henry) Helton, she was born April 18, 1935 in Lineville, Iowa. While working the Pig Stand, she met the love of her life, Ivan Don Atchley and they were married July 26, 1953 in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where Don was stationed at Fort Bliss, TX. When Don was discharged they moved to the Pure Air community where they made their home.

Doris was a graduate from Kirksville High School. She worked at McGraw Edison for thirty years during this time she was also a cosmetic representative for nine years and worked on the farm with her husband Don.

Don preceded her in death on December 17, 2007. She was also preceded in death by In-laws Sam and Cena Atchley, a sister, Thelma Jean Colvard, half brother, Rodney Helton, two brothers-in-law, Donald Cowan and Curtis Colvard, and a nephew, Andrew Helton.

Doris is survived by her step-mother, Bernice Starks of Kirksville, MO; sister, Maxine Cowan of Macon, MO; half sister, Pam (Ken) Lindsey of Novinger, MO; brother-in-law, Delbert (Debbie) Atchley of Novinger, MO, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews including a special cousin Patti Helton of Kirksville, MO.

Doris will be sadly missed by all. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and joke around. She was an excellent cook and you never left her home hungry. Doris was also a very compassionate person who possessed a deep spiritual faith.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Pratt Cemetery in rural Novinger, Missouri, with Pastor Robert Gange officiating. No public visitation will be held.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Grgurich, Wesley Grgurich, Derek Grgurich, Jared Grgurich, Lucas Grgurich, and Lathan Grgurich.

Memorial donations in memory of Doris may be made to the Pratt Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
