Adam Glen Bruner, 46, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, April 18, 2021 at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.

Adam was born in Kirksville, MO on July 9, 1974 the son of Donald Glen and Sherry Louise (Bushnell) Bruner. He spent his early childhood growing up on the family farm, west of Queen City. He started his elementary education at Schuyler County schools, but later moved to Brashear, and graduated High School with the class of 1992. Adam took an early interest in being a firefighter when still in high school. He showed such an enthusiasm for it that the Brashear Fire Department developed a “Junior Firefighter Program” for Adam, and his buddies Jason Taylor, and Travis Gregory. He later joined the La Plata Fire Department.

Soon after graduation, Adam started as a dispatcher for the Adair County Ambulance District. From there his career blossomed, and he went on to become an EMT in 1994, and a Paramedic in 1996. In 2004 he began picking up shifts with Air Evac, and eventually went into management with the company as Program Director of Base 38, until 2013. From there he went to Scotland County Hospital as EMS Director until 2015. He longed to get back into the ambulance, and begin taking up extra shifts at ACAD in 2014, eventually going back full time. Throughout his career Adam always felt a longing to be involved at ACAD where he had started dispatching just out of high school at age 18. He enjoyed the people, the comradery, and the excitement of never knowing what the next minute holds.

Adam knew nearly every police officer, firefighter, EMT, and paramedic in the surrounding community. He was highly intelligent, witty, and outgoing. He was involved in the Greentop, MO Masonic Lodge No. 635, and the El Kadir Shrine Club in Kirksville. Adam enjoyed his time off of work. He loved playing golf, as long as it wasn’t too hot, or too cold. He enjoyed collecting and shooting firearms and hanging out at TNT guns in Kirksville. The most important time spent away from work, was with Dawn, and their beloved dogs. Adam loved animals, especially his faithful “hounds.” He loved the holidays, when his family would come over for an evening filled with delicious food, cocktails, and laughs.

Throughout his career, Adam Bruner saved hundreds of lives, helped thousands of people in their time of need, and touched many families of Adair County, and the surrounding communities. As an organ donor, he is still saving lives and helping people recover from serious medical issues. He was a great man who died too young, and will be sadly missed by many.
Adam is survived by his wife Dawn of the home; his mother, Sherry Parrish of Queen City, MO; grandmother, Louise Bushnell of Queen City, MO; one brother and sister-in-law, Drew and Lillian Bruner of Queen City, MO; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Craig Berryman of Kansas City, MO and Katie and Brad Buck of Kirksville, MO; five nephews, Sam and Jack Tarpein of Jonesboro, IN, Brody and Brock Bruner of Queen City, MO, and Axel Buck of Kirksville, MO.

He was preceded in death by his father Donald Bruner and his grandparents, Lloyd Bushnell and Lawrence and Helen Bruner.

Public visitation will be held Thursday, April 22, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2021 at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville with Pastor Darrell Crooks and Don Crosby officiating. Cremation will follow the service.

Pallbearers will be Jason Taylor, Chris Drennan, Travis Gregory, Wade George, Bill Peterson, Dave Reed, and co-workers and friends from the Adair County Ambulance District.
