Dorothea Lee (Moore) Piland passed away Friday, January 15, 2021 at the LaPlata Nursing Home.

Dorothea was born February 18, 1932 in Kirksville, Missouri, the daughter of George A. and Maurita R. (Fox) Moore.

Dorothea was raised, along with her two brothers Jamie and Bob on the family farm near Adair, Missouri. In 1950 she graduated from Kirksville Senior High School and attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College. She was married in 1951 and had two children, Sherry Lynn and Mark Alan.

Dorothea worked for several years for Dr. Stanley Bohon and later as a bank teller for Commerce Bank. Later she worked again as a bank teller in Evansville, Indiana until her retirement in 1994. Following retirement she returned to her family farm and helped raise her granddaughter Jillian.

As her health declined she become a resident of LaPlata Nursing Home where she was very well cared for by the doctors, nurses and staff. We will be forever grateful to them for taking such great care of her.

Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents, George and Maurita, brothers, Jamie and Bob and daughter Sherry.

Surviving Dorothea is her son Dr. Mark Piland and Robyn, grandchildren Shawn and Scott Piland and Sunshine and Jillian Piland. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren.

Her infectious smile and twinkling blue eyes were her trademarks and she never really met a stranger. Dorothea will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Dorothea has been cremated and a graveside service will be held at a later date at St. Mary's Cemetery in Adair, Missouri.

Arrangements were taken care of by Travis-Noe Funeral Home of Kirksville.
