Kathryn Virginia (Cummings) Steele, 73, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2020 at her home under the care of family and Hospice.

Born November 2, 1946 in Gary, Indiana, Kathryn was the daughter of the late Carl T. and Catherine V. (Joiner) Cummings. On June 27, 1964 in Corinth, MS, Kathryn was united in marriage to James Steele who preceded her in death on January 29, 2020 after fifty-five years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Carl M. Cummings, and two sisters, Carol Ogden and Barbara Sudiekis.

Kathryn is survived by one son, James Elliott Steele Jr. of Kirksville, MO; two daughters, Catherine Steele and Diana (Lance Hazelett) Steele all of Kirksville, MO; one sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Bruce Jansen of New Smyrna Beach, FL; six grandchildren, Blake Harris, Heather Dean, Christopher Steele, Alexis (Steele) Martin, and Colby Steele, Brhet "Peanut" Place, as well as eight great-grandchildren.

Kathryn was a graduate from Portage High School in Portage, Indiana with the Class of 1964. She worked a number of years along side of Brenda Sewell at the Uptown Cafe. She was last employed as a supervisor at Maritz in Kirksville until retiring. Kathryn bowled for a number of years and enjoyed going to tournaments with her bowling teams. She also enjoyed working puzzles and visiting with Sonja Hannah and Duretta Newman at the public library for she loved reading and would read at least five novels a week.

Her family will remember their mom and grandma for always being in her kitchen where they spent countless hours visiting together.

It was Kathryn's wish to be cremated and no service be held. Arrangement were taken care of Travis-Noe Funeral Home of Kirksville.
