Loyd Ulysses Welte, 96, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2019 at Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, Missouri.

Born April 23, 1923 in Quincy, Illinois, Loyd was the son of the late Ulysses Grant and Alvina (Voss) Welte. On August 12, 1943 in Quincy, Illinois, Loyd was united in marriage to Oleta Marie Hughes who preceded him in death on March 21, 1977. He later married Ruth Anders who preceded him in death, and Dorothy Hardy who also preceded him in death. Loyd was preceded in death by five children, Michael Welte in infancy, Margaret Welte, Patrick Welte, Danny Welte and Terry Welte; one great-grandson and one great great-grandson.

Loyd is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Dixie Welte of Kirksville, MO, and Mark Welte of Quincy, IL; ten grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; daughter-in-law, Donna Welte of Lancaster, MO, as well as several step children.

Loyd was a graduate from Quincy High School. He then proudly served his country in the United State Army during WWII, receiving the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign Ribbon, the American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, two Overseas Bars, and the Victory Medal. On January 23, 1946 Loyd was honorably discharged and returned to Quincy. At that time, Loyd went to work as an auto mechanic for Sykes Garage. In 1954, Loyd moved to Kirksville and went to work for Palace Bakery as a truck mechanic and also delivered for Mitchell Implement Co. in 1956 Loyd opened his own business (Welte T.V.) and was an antique dealer who repaired many antique clocks.

Loyd was a member of the D.A.V. Chapter 48, American Legion Post 20 and life member of V.F.W. Post 2508 and Masonic Lodge # 366 AM & FM. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kirksville.

Public visitation will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2019 with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service held at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Travis-Noe Funeral Home with Pastor Virgil Jones officiating. Interment with military honors will follow the service at East Center Cemetery, east of Kirksville.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons, Tim Welte, John Welte, James Welte, Andy Welte, Mavrick Welte, Logan Welte, and Malichi Welte.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to East Center Cemetery Association and may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
