Dorothy Lorene (Pope) Patten, 98, of Kirksville, Missouri passed away
Monday, April 1, 2019 at Luther Manor Retirement Center in Hannibal, Missouri.

The daughter of the late Ernest "Mike" and Bonnie Marie (Smith) Pope, she was born August 11, 1920 in Novinger, Missouri. On February 17, 1940 in Brashear, Missouri, Dorothy was united in marriage to Orville H. Patten who preceded her in death on May 20, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Cena Hiatt, Peggy Richmond, Leota Blacksmith, Genrose Miller and Adalee Glaspie; two brothers Bobby Pope and Calvin "Buck" Pope, as well as her son-in-law, Bill Varnold.

Dorothy is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, O.H. and Mary Ann Patten of Gravois Mills, MO; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jean Varnold of Kirksville, MO and Jill and Pat Janes of Hannibal, MO; one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Jeanette Pope of Palmyra, MO; three sisters, Joanne Pearce of Novinger, MO, Carol Martin of Kirksville, MO, and Pat Brawner of Kirksville, MO; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy lived most of her life in the Bullion community and was a graduate from Kirksville High School with the Class of 1939. She and her husband farmed on the family farm and Dorothy was employed seventeen years as assistant manager at Sears in Kirksville until retiring in 1976. Her hobbies included quilting, crocheting and reading.

Dorothy was a member of the Bullion Methodist Church.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, under the direction of Travis-Noe Funeral Home of Kirksville.

Pallbearers will be Jack Pickett, Dallas Cupp, David Locke, Beau Viehmann, Billy Joe Pearce, and Terry Hiatt.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Dorothy may be made to the Pinkerton Cemetery or Bullion Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
