Francis Jay "Jaybird" Gashwiler, 63, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Friday, May 25, 2018 at the LaPlata Nursing Home in LaPlata, Missouri.

The son of the late Francis Courtland "Peaches" and Anna Mae (Barnes) Gashwiler, Jay was born June 7, 1954 in Kirksville, Missouri. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Beth Nichols.

Jay is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Alan Jay and Darcy Gashwiler of Leesburg, GA; two granddaughters, Collins and Camden Gashwiler of Leesburg, GA; one brother William Gashwiler of Green City, MO; as well as several aunts, nieces, and nephews.

Jay was a graduate from Novinger High School with the Class of 1972. He was employed thirty years for Standard Register until retiring. After retirement, Jay worked ten years for Wal-Mart in Kirksville.

Jay was very accomplished in woodworking which he loved and also enjoyed NASCAR and following the St. Louis Cardinals.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 27, 2018 at Novinger Cemetery in Novinger, Missouri, with Pastor Darrell Crooks officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Travis-Noe Funeral Home of Kirksville, Missouri and no public visitation will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jay may be made to the Novinger Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
