Carl Anderson "Skip" Slater Jr., 87, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Kirksville Manor Care Center.

Born June 13, 1930 in LaGrange, Missouri, Carl was the son of the late Carl and Ducky "Ruth" (Butler) Slater Sr. Carl was also preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Harsell, Darlene Decker and Betsy Slater, and three brothers, Robert, Donald, and John Slater.

Skip is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Brad Althide of LaPlata, MO, and Holly and Terry Bearly of Lee's Summit, MO; two brothers, Larry Slater of Quincy, IL, and Leroy Slater of Sheperdsville, KY; one sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Martin McCarty of Dunlap, IL; four grandchildren, Lucas Bearly of Milwaukee, WI, Allison Bearly of Lee's Summit, MO, Callie Althide of LaPlata, MO, and Cassidy Althide of LaPlata, MO, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Skip was a graduate from LaGrange High School in LaGrange, Missouri. He was employed at Gardner Denver in LaGrange, Missouri, before going to work for Firestone in Quincy, Illinois where he was employed a number of years until his retirement. Skip later drove a school bus for Lewis County. Skip was a blood donor for years donating over twenty gallons of blood for Red Cross. He was a boy scout leader, was know by many for his love of baking, loved roller skating and enjoyed his retirement.

Skip was a past member of the LaGrange Christian Church where he was a deacon and song leader for over fifty years and after moving to Kirksville to make his home became a member of Cornerstone Church.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 19, 2017 at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Pastor Jeremy Broach and Chaplain Paul Milliken presiding. Interment will follow the service at Highland Park Cemetery in Kirksville.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. service time in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home.
