James Stewart Elmslie, 86, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Twin Pines Adult Care Center in Kirksville.

The son of Wallace and Hazel (Stewart) Elmslie, he was born December 30, 1930 in Quincy, Illinois. He was united in marriage to Jean Elmslie who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Alice Schaller.

James is survived by two sons, Keith Elmslie of Kirksville, MO, and Bruce Elmslie of Dover, NH; one sister, Nancy Brown of Ashville, N.C.; four grandchildren; four nephews, and one niece.

James received a PHD in Chemistry and served his country in the United States Army. James was a research chemist for Hercules, Inc. in Salt Lake City, Utah until retiring. He moved to Kirksville a few years ago and resided with his son Keith until entering Twin Pines Adult Care Center.

It was James's wish to be cremated and no service be held. Arrangements have been taken care of by Travis-Noe Funeral Home of Kirksville.
