Coleen (Gilkison) Moots, 81, of Kirksville, Missouri passed away Tuesday (September 27, 2016) at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.

The daughter of Johnnie and Hazel LoDena (Hall) Gilkison, she was born January 9, 1935 in Youngstown, Missouri. On April 1, 1950, Coleen was united in marriage to Harold Dean Munn and from this marriage two children Michael Dean Munn and Judy Coleen Cook were born. On September 18, 1958 she married Dr. Owen L. Moots and gained her step-son Ronald Alan Moots.

Coleen is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Michael Dean and Vicki Munn of Kirksville, MO, one daughter Judy Coleen Cook of South Gifford, MO, one step-son, Ronald Alan Moots of Kirksville, MO; five grandchildren, Jason Munn, Joshua Munn, Nicholas Cook, Carmen Stewart, and Briana Downing, and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Johnnie January 9, 1961 on Coleen's 26th Birthday; her mother Hazel LoDena on October 9, 1989; her grandparents Hershel and Weltha Hall, Benjamin and Stella Gilkison and her stepfather Virgil Truitt.

Coleen was a life long resident of Adair County. She received her Hairdressing License in 1961 and instructors license in 1962. Coleen taught at the Kirksville College of Cosmetology and later opened Coleen's Magic Mirror. She served two years on the executive board as director and five years on the Missouri Hair Fashion Committee. Coleen won several awards for High Fashion styling and hair cutting. Her advanced studies were at Columbia University. She later sold Real Estate for Pound Reality and Insurance for Combined Insurance Company. On March 1, 1979 she opened Modern Beauty Center where she worked until her retirement in January of 2005. She was sorry to leave so many clients and friends.

Coleen enjoyed her family and friends, quilting, knitting, bingo and playing slot machines. She loved her two little dogs Joy and Jenny.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday (October 1, 2016) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville with Pastor Harold Engel officiating. Interment will follow the service at Prough Cemetery, southwest of Kirksville, Missouri.

Family will receive friends on Saturday (October 1, 2016) for one hour before service time.

Pallbearers will be Jason Munn, Josh Munn, Nick Cook, Ryan Stewart, Kurt Downing and Makenna Cook.
