Leta Overstreet (94) was born November 11, 1921 in Novinger, Missouri and passed away on February 7, 2016. She was a lifelong resident of Adair County with the last few years living close to her son and daughter-in-law in Ottumwa, Iowa. She was the daughter of Earl and Ada (Hodge) Wood, wife to Harold Overstreet, sister to Paul, Earl L., Mildred (Foss) and Margie (Dabney), who are deceased.
Leta was a loving mother (grand & great grand), caring family member and dear friend. Surviving is one son, Steven Overstreet and wife Linda of Ottumwa, Iowa and one daughter, Anita Overstreet of Wentzville, Missouri. She was blessed with three grandchildren, Kim Robinson; husband Todd, Karen Wilcoxson, husband Vince of Ottumwa, Iowa and Bryce Patterson, wife Darla, of Wentzville, Missouri. Her five great grandchildren Kelsey and Ryley Robinson, Karissa Wilcoxson of Ottumwa, Iowa, Kayla Wilcoxson, of DesMoines, Iowa and Michael Davies of Wentzville, Missouri.

Leta shared many memories with her family and is survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Wood of LaPlata and many nephews, nieces and cousins. She also shared many memories with family members, now deceased, Anita’s husband Charles Peters, brother and sister-in-law, Hubert and Maxine Hulse, Denver, Colorado, Sister-in-Law, Beulah Wood and brother-in-law, Tom Dabney.

Leta was a familiar face at the HyVee checkout counter for thirty five years, retiring in 1997. She was also employed at J.C. Penney’s prior to working at HyVee. Leta was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a volunteer at the Northeast Regional Medical gift shop.

Leta was a caring wife for forty-five years, a devoted mother and always ready to play with the grand and great grandkids which created treasured memories. She was also very blessed in her life with a close family and very dear friends. Her family and friends were a great source of pleasure for her.

Leta loved to work in her garden, was a long time bowling fan, always ready for a card game, great at needlepoint and embroidery and a wonderful cook. Her husband, children, family and friends brought great joy to her life, making it a wonderful ninety-four years.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, Missouri. Family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 one hour before service time.

Interment will follow the service at Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville.

Pallbearers will be Terry Wood, Mike Helton, Butch Ferry, Vince Wilcoxson, Todd Robinson and Bryce Paterson.
