Andrew Alexander "Andy" Steele, 80, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Friday (December 2, 2016) at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

Andy was born December 4, 1935 in Novinger, Missouri, the son of the late Theodore S. and Gladys C. (McNalley) Steele. On December 22, 1956, Andy was united in marriage to Anita Stidmon.

Andy is survived by his wife Anita of sixty years; one son Alan Jay Steele of Kirksville, MO; one daughter, Anda Reidt of Gray Summit, MO; and one grandson Andrew Reidt of Gray Summit, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson Quinton Steele on August 11, 2015.

Andy was a graduate from Novinger High School with the Class of 1953 and attended Kirksville State Teachers College (now Truman State University) three years. From 1958 to 1960, Andy served in the United States Army stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged in October of 1960. He was also a member of the Army Reserves four years. After returning home, Andy and his father owned Steele Construction Company several years. In 1970, Andy went to work for Jerry Crist Construction Company where he was employed until retiring in 2000.

Andy was a member of Hamilton Street Baptist Church of Kirksville where he served on the church building committee several years. He was a past member of #105 Masonic Lodge, served as Jobs daughter's leader, coached Little League Baseball, was a board member of the Morelock Cemetery, and collected Lewis L'amour books.

Public visitation will be held Monday (December 5, 2016) from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday (December 6, 2016) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Hunsaker officiating. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Morelock Cemetery northwest of Novinger, Missouri.

Pallbearers will be Tim Crist, Matt Crist, Jeff Crist, Eric Tillotson, Gary Bradley and Jim Graham. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Hamilton Street Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his wife Anita Steele. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
