John Leo West, 74, of Novinger, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly Sunday (October 16, 2016) at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.

The son of Arthur and Mabel (Rice) West he was born March 29, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri. On January 25, 1968 John was united in marriage to Barbara Parrish.

John is survived by his wife Barbara of forty-eight years; four sons and a daughter-in-law, Garnett and Melody Maize of Kirksville, MO, Roger West, Jeff West and Artie West all of Sullivan, MO; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Janie and Frankie Salsberry of Novinger, MO, Theresa and Terry Sharp of Novinger, MO, and Angie Garst of Wein, MO; one brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Rose West of Novinger, MO; one sister, Maxine Earl of Aurora, CO; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Howard Eugene Maize and Deanna Sue Maize; three grandchildren, Randy Kennedy, Randall Salsberry, and Brayden Maize; two brothers, Bud and Art, and five sisters, Mary, Ethel, Rose, Laura and Francis.

John served his country in the United States Air Force and was a Airman Third Class. He moved to Novinger from St. Louis forty-one years ago and worked as a truck driver.

John enjoyed dogs, hunting, fishing, and model airplanes. Most of all he loved his family and was very dedicated to his grandchildren.

Public visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday (October 19, 2016) with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday (October 20, 2016) a Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville. Interment with military rites will follow the service at Salisbury Cemetery south of Novinger.

Pallbearers will be Frankie Salsberry, Jared Sharp, Johnny Maize, Terry Sharp and Frank Salsberry. Honorary pallbearers will be Aiden McKim, Anthony Schultz, Nicholas Schultz, and Jacob Nichols.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Barbara West for expenses. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
