Eathel Vauncille "Tobey" (Tuttle) Eitel, 78, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Saturday (October 17, 2015) at Twin Pines Adult Care Center in Kirksville.

The daughter of Carl Franklin and Lora Aline (Sullivan) Tuttle, she was born November 29, 1936 in Kirksville, Missouri. On June 10, 1956, Vauncille was united in marriage to Hugh Eitel and to this union two children were born.

Vauncille was raised on a farm north of Gifford, Missouri. She was a graduate from Kirksville High School with the Class of 1954, attended Northeast Missouri State (Truman) receiving a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1958, and received her Master of Arts in Education in 1968.

As a young person active in 4-H Club, she won the 1st award given for Outstanding 4-H Member. Vauncille taught a total of 38 years. She taught at Gifford, Willow Branch rural schools, Novinger, Green City, and Kirksville where she taught all grades but mainly 6th grade. After retirement Vauncille substituted 13 years in the Kirksville District., where she was an after school drama teacher, did tutoring and private tutoring which she loved doing. She was listed in Who's Who of Teachers and was a member of Friends of the Library.

As a young woman she belonged to several community organizations. She was a charter member of Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa an educational organization for women, served 8 years as a state officer of that organization and was a 4-H and Cub Scout leader of Troop 404. She was a lifetime member of the National Teachers Association and in later years belonged to the local and state retired teachers organization.

Vauncille loved teaching and her students, animals (especially her cats), country music, dancing, knitting, reading mysteries and thrillers, gardening and flowers. Her greatest love of her life were her children and grandchildren for she was totally devoted to them and will always be with them in strong spirit.

Vauncille attended Union Temple Church and was a member of the First Christian Church of Kirksville.

Vauncille is survived by one son, Lane Eitel of Lee's Summit, MO; one daughter and son-in-law, Gina and Wayne Hubbard of Kirksville, MO; five grandchildren, Aaron Eitel and wife Amanda, Megan Eitel, Wesley Hubbard, Shelby Hubbard and Brendon Stinson; three great-grandchildren, Addison, Lillian and Alice Eitel; her cousin, Jon E. Williams and wife Daris of Greenwood, IN; and her very loved pets, Schuyler, Nancy Grace and Precious.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Public visitation will be held Tuesday (October 20, 2015) with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday (October 21, 2015) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Pastor Marty Lowe and Pastor Jim Pitney officiating. Interment will follow the service at Union Temple Cemetery, southwest of Kirksville.
