Linda Lou (Snyder) VanWye, 71, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly, Friday (August 2, 2013).

The daughter of Charles Gordon and Velma Helen (Stewart) Snyder, she was born August 16, 1941 in Green Castle, Missouri. On June 26, 1960 in Novinger, Missouri, Linda was united in marriage to Arthur Leon VanWye who preceded her in death on May 31, 1990.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Vicky Sue VanWye.

Linda is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Curtis VanWye and Scott and Robin VanWye all of Kirksville, MO; one daughter Joy VanWye and friend Bob Garrett of Downing, MO; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Chuck and Roerine Snyder of Kirksville, MO and Sam and Connie Snyder of Marion, IA; five grandchildren, Travis, Kelsey and Tyler VanWye and Ethan and Evan Lawrence; two great-grandchildren, Vadyn and Layla VanWye as well as several nieces and nephews.

Linda was a graduate from Novinger High School with the Class of 1959 and attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College. In the early 60’s, Linda and her husband purchased Norman & Son Service Station where they worked side by side until Arthur’s death in 1990. Linda continued the business “VanWye & Son Service Station” until it’s closing in 1998. She last worked thirteen years with her brother Chuck at Snyder Lawn Service.

In Linda’s early years she enjoyed bowling and playing softball. She was also active as a Girl Scout Leader for many years and a member of Women of the Moose Lodge in Kirksville. Throughout her life, she enjoyed dancing, riding ATV’s, fishing, traveling and following St. Louis Cardinal baseball. Most of all, Linda loved the time spent with her family and friends.

Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. today, Monday (August 5, 2013) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Reverend Terry Hunsaker officiating. Family received friends from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. service time.

Interment followed the service at Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville.

Pallbearers were Stacy Snyder, Shannon Snyder, Chris Snyder, Todd Snyder, Troy Snyder and Rob Spain. Honorary pallbearers were Mary Marrow, Bert Morrow, Bryan Daniel, Brian Noe, Kendall Christman and Steve Turner.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Vicky Sue VanWye Scholarship Fund. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
