Vera M. (McClanahan) Winkleman, 100, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away peacefully Thursday (May 30, 2013) at Twin Pines Adult Care Center in Kirksville.

Vera was born November 2, 1912 the daughter of Leo and Flossie Mae (Rigdon) McClanahan of Clay, Missouri, in Adair County. She was the fifth of eleven children, and attended Hazel Green grade school.

On September 9, 1934, Vera married Howard Winkleman. They lived and farmed in the East Center community until 1978 whey they sold their farm and moved to a new home at the edge of Kirksville.

Vera is survived by her son, Howard Eldon Winkleman and wife Roberta of Quincy, IL; her daughter, Sharon Elaine (Winkleman) Moore and husband George of Gold Canyon, AZ; four grandchildren, Mark Winkleman of Scottsdale, AZ, Scott Winkleman of Castle Rock, CO, Kurt Moore of Tuscon, AZ, and Tara Moore of Ashburham, MA; four great-grandchildren, Greg and Sara Winkleman of Phoenix, AZ, and Tristen and Taylor Brooks of Ashburham, MA; sister-in-law, Margaret Winkleman of Greentop, MO; brother-in-law, Fred Winkleman of Brashear, MO, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vera was preceded in death by her husband Howard on February 18, 2011; two sisters, Thelmas Netterfield and Elizabeth Ellen (Treasure) McCartney, and eight brothers, Murell, Gale, Marlen, Eldon, Waldo, Arron, Perry and Dean McClanahan.

Vera treasured her extended family remembering all of their birth dates. She became a member of the Church of God Holiness at a young age and attended East Center Community Church for many years. She volunteered for RSVP, and enjoyed sewing, crocheting and visiting with family and friends. Vera especially enjoyed the many auto trips across Kansas-Colorado (over 100) and Arizona to visit her family.

Public visitation will be held Monday (June 3, 2013) from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday (June 3, 2013) at East Center Cemetery with Chaplain Carol Davenport presiding.

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Vera Winkleman may be made to Hospice of Northeast Missouri or to East Center Cemetery Fund. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
