Lyndon Russell “Bud” Mullanix, 91, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Saturday (March 9, 2013) at the LaPlata Nursing Home in LaPlata, Missouri.

The son of Basil and Lavina Willa (Briddle) Mullanix he was born November 29, 1921 in Connelsville, Missouri. On November 20, 1960 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Bud was united in marriage to Goldie Roberts Harbor, who preceded him in death on June 19, 1998.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dorothy Long and two brothers, Johnnie and Pearl Mullanix.

Bud is survived by one step son, Leon Harbor and wife Mary Ann of Kirksville, MO; one sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Johnnie Williams of Greentop, MO; several step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Bud received his education in the Benton School. He served his country in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945, where he was in Central Europe and Rhineland receiving two Bronze Stars. After being honorably discharged, Bud returned home and began working for Updyke Motors in Kirksville, until moving to Colorado Springs, CO, later to Westminster, CO where he worked as a mechanic until his retirement. Bud then moved back to Kirksville where he resided the past thirty years.

Bud received his education in Kirksville. He served his country in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945, where he was in Central Europe and Rhineland receiving two Bronze Stars. After being honorably discharged, Bud returned home and began working for Updyke Motors in Kirksville, until moving to Colorado Springs, CO, later to Westmister, CO, where he worked as a mechanic until his retirement. Bud then moved back to Kirksville, where he resided the past thirty years.

In his early years, Bud drove stock cars and won several trophies. Bud enjoyed wheeling and dealing and was always looking for a good deal. He enjoyed being with his family and the guys at McDonalds. He loved his nieces cooking and always returned her dishes so they could be refilled. Every Sunday morning, Bud had breakfast with his sister, Norma and then went to the nursing home to see his brother-in-law, John. He also enjoyed trips to Davenport, Iowa, to see his sister Dorothy. Bud loved spending time with his five years old nephew, Malcom, for all the laughs he gave him.

He was a member of Kirksville VFW Post 2508.

Public visitation will be held Tuesday (March 12, 2013) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday (March 13, 2013) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville.

Pallbearers will be David Combs, Reo Haynes, Jimmy Overstreet, Mitch Welte, Donald Potter and Larry Schrage.
