Marion Lee Smith, 66, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Wednesday (October 9, 2013) at his home.

The son of Meredith Ray and Eva Mae (Ownbey) Smith, he was born June 19, 1947 in Kirksville, Missouri. On November 25, 1970 in Edina, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Patsy Sue Shackelford who preceded him in death on November 4, 2010.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother in infancy.

Marion is survived by one daughter, Eva Smith of Kirksville, MO; two sons, Thomas Snyder and Sammy Snyder both of Kirksville, MO; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobbie and Rita Smith of LaFayette, AR and David and Toynia Smith of Manhattan, KS; six grandchildren,
Tommy Snyder, Shyanna Snyder, Derek Ayers, Travis Ayers, Tony Miller and Logan Topham; three great-grandchildren, Regan, Julianna and Emma Ayers, as well a several nieces and nephews.

Marion was a graduate from Kirksville High School with the Class of 1965. He served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Marion then returned home and was employed twelve years for Jerry Christ. He then worked a short time in California and later in Tennessee as a security guard for Murray Guard and Pinkerton Security until his retirement. At that time, Marion returned to Kirksville, to make his home.

He enjoyed collecting coins, old money and fishing.

Marion was a very loving father and grandfather and will be sadly missed.

Public visitation will be held Friday (October 11, 2013) with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Pallbearers will be Bobbie Smith Jr., Travis Ayers, Autumn Smith, Chris Smith, Brent Smith and Sammy Snyder.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday (October 12, 2013) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home, with Reverend Don Noble officiating. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Highland Park Cemetery in Kirksville.
