Irene Blanche (Clay) Salter, 97, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Thursday (January 24, 2013) at Twin Pines Adult Care Center in Kirksville.

The daughter of Joseph and Leona (Wiles) Clay, she was born in a Log Cabin on the family farm, December 1, 1915 in the Stahl community, in Putnam County, Missouri.

She attended Husted rural school and Martinstown high school. Irene was united in marriage to Harley Dee Robinson on September 7, 1935 and to this marriage four children were born. Irene was a housewife and also helped with the farming and daily chores, she loved gardening and usually had a large strawberry bed. Most years she raised a large number of chickens to be dressed and frozen. She shared the harvest with family and friends, sometimes she sold garden items and produce to the local Air Force base. She continued to run the family farm for six years after she and Harley separated. Irene was united in marriage to Joseph Salter on November 19, 1969 and spent the winter months in Lakeland, FL until 1976 and since that time has resided in Kirksville, Missouri.

Irene was a member of the Central Church of Christ of Kirksville.

Irene is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Georgia Ann Robinson of Greentop, MO and Gary and Jane Robinson of St. Charles, MO; two daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Wayne Glaspie of Greentop, MO and Iola and Wendell Lee of Novinger, MO; one brother and sister-in-law, Murl and Bonita Clay of Akins, AR; one sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and Wendell Lloyd of Greentop, MO; one sister-in-law, Lucille Clay of Kirksville, MO; fifteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; eleven great great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Salter; two brothers, Eldon and Melvin Clay; three sisters, Velma Scobee, Edna Lay and Neva Young; three brothers-in-law, Ross Scobee, Clyde Lay and Glen Young and one sister-in-law, Evelyn Clay.

Public visitation will be held Sunday (January 27, 2013) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday (January 28, 2013) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Pastor Dan Todd officiating. Interment will follow the service at Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Robinson, John Glaspie, Nick Komoroski, Steve Haley, David Robinson and Dana Robinson. Honorary pallbearers will be H J Hohensee, James Walkup, Terry Eagen and Doug Robinson.
