Gary Griffel, 76, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Saturday (August 25, 2012) at his home under Hospice care.

The son of Marc Ralph and Ruth Esther (Gulick) Griffel, he was born June 11, 1936 in Burlington, Iowa. On April 18, 1959 in Burlington, IA, Gary was united in marriage to Jane McCann.

Gary is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kevin and Annette Griffel of Kirksville, MO and Kurt Griffel of Kissimmee, FL; three daughters and one son-in-law, Kelley and Gene Grgurich of Kirksville, MO, Karen Griffel of Orlando, FL and Kim Griffel of Tampa FL; seven grandchildren, Dillon, Cody, Jesse, Wyatt, Kaleb and wife Susan, Karter and Alex Griffel, as well as one great- grandson, Marc Griffel.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents.

Gary graduated from high school in Burlington, Iowa. After graduating from high school, Gary served in the United States Army. He worked in sales a number of years, until moving to Kirksville, Missouri in 1963. Gary was very active in AA, flying planes, riding his motorcycle and he loved spending time with his family and friends.

He was a Shriner and attended The Crossing in Kirksville.

Public visitation will be held Thursday (August 30, 2012) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday (August 31, 2012) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Father Bill Kottenstette presiding. Interment will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday (August 31, 2012) at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa.

Pallbearers will be Cade Mullins, Justin Jones, Terry Robinson, Seth Shumaker, Jack Lambrecht and Al Powell. Honorary bearers will be his grandsons.

Memorials may be made to the Gary Griffel Memorial Fund. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
