Jackie Gene Thompson, 72, of Kirksville, Missouri, formerly of Morris, Illinois, passed away Thursday (June 21, 2012) at his home.

The son of Edmond and Imagene (Hale) Thompson, he was born October 7, 1939 in Galatia, Illinois. In 1966, Jackie married Jeanne Franklin and to this union, two children were born. In 1985, he married Donna Briscoe and to this union one daughter was born.

Jackie is survived by one son, Jack Franklin Thompson of Novinger, MO; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sheila and Victor Hargis of Morris, IL and Lauren Thompson of Kirksville, MO; four grandchildren, Andrew Hargis, Katherine Hargis, Bella Green and Jenna Thompson and his special friend, Donna Briscoe.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Edmond Lee Thompson and two sisters, Pat and Barbara Thompson.

Jackie was a graduate from Carrier Mills High School in Carrier Mills, Illinois. He then served in the United States Navy. After being honorably discharged he worked in Joliet, Illinois where he was employed a short time for Caterpillar. He was last employed thirty years with the Carpenters Union until retiring in 2003.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and riding his Honda motorcycle.

He was a member of A.B.A.T.E., Freedom of the Road Riders, NRA and was a member of the Pure Air Baptist Church.

It was Jackie’s wish to be cremated and a memorial service in his memory will be held 7:00 p.m. Monday (June 25, 2012) with family receiving friends one hour before the service in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville. Reverend Don Noble will officiate the service.

Interment will take place at a later date in Harrisburg, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Jackie Thompson may be made to the donor’s choice. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
