James Edgar Bullock, 81, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Tuesday (November 20, 2012) at Kirksville Manor Care Center in Kirksville, Missouri.

The son of Edgar and Pearl (Roan) Bullock, he was born July 16, 1931 in LaPlata, Missouri. On March 2, 1975 in Kirksville, Missouri, Jim was united in marriage to Dorothy “Dot” Shorten.

James is survived by his wife Dot of the home; one son, Mark Bullock of Overland Park, KS; two daughters, Linda Newton of Kansas City, MO and Janna Bullock and husband, David Barrickman of Overland Park, KS; one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Ann Bullock of LaPlata, MO; one sister, Janet L. Snyder of Naples, FL; six grandchildren, Carmen & Loren Price, Jacob and Louis McConnell, Chris Campbell and wife Karen, and Jessie Bullock; five step-children, Craig Shorten and wife Gina of Atlanta, MO, Steve Shorten, Todd Shorten and Cathy Wood all of Kirksville, MO and Garen Shorten of Kansas City, MO; two step-grandchildren, Rosalind Wood of Kirksville, MO and Chade Shorten of Atlanta, MO and three step-great grandchildren, Renee, Chloe and Levi Wood all of Kirksville, MO. He is also survived by several nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Sally Price and Cathy in infancy and one sister, Mary Lou Slaughter.

Jim was a graduate from LaPlata High School with the Class of 1949. Throughout Jim’s working career he was employed for Santa Fe Railroad, worked as a meat cutter at Mackey-Williams Grocery Store and later for Hy-Vee, was a car salesman for Lovegreen Ford, meat cutter at Western’s Meat Market in Greentop, MO, at the Dukum Inn and sold sweet corn for McCartney’s.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter, raised bird dogs and loved buying, selling and trading guns and knives. Jim also enjoyed playing pool in a pool league.

Public visitation will be held Saturday (November 24, 2012) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

A memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday (November 25, 2012) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Doug Athon presiding. A Eulogy will be given by his step-son, Craig Shorten.

Jim remains will be interred at a later date beside his daughter, Sally in Overland Park, Kansas.
