-

Margaret Elaine (Reynolds) Winkleman, 95, of rural Greentop, died Friday, April 20, 2018, at Northeast Regional Medical Center, Kirksville.
She was born April 30, 1922, northwest of Kirksville in the Porter community to Theodore Way and Ruby Sebree Reynolds.
She was privileged to attend the Porter Rural School when it was a demonstration school under the direction of Marie Turner Harvey. She then graduated from Kirksville High School in 1939. After two years at Northeast Missouri State (now Truman University), she began teaching in the rural schools of Adair County, first at East Center, then Porter, Bryant and Sperry, 15 years in all. She also finished work for her Bachelor’s Degree in Education at Northeast Missouri State in 1961.
She married Gene Eldon Winkleman, Aug. 4, 1942, and the couple spent most of their married life on a farm northeast of Kirksville, where they moved in 1948.
Margaret enjoyed working on the farm with her husband, gardening, reading, doing crossword puzzles —and winning at Scrabble. She loved poetry, and was able to recite from memory all or parts of many classic poems, even in recent years. She collected many publications having to do with Adair County history; played the piano for Sperry Baptist Church, where she was a longtime member; and served as secretary for the Sperry OAO community club for several years. She also was involved in 4-H, serving as a community leader for the Sperry 4-H Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2003, and by her only brother, Duane Reynolds in 1956, and his son, Randy Reynolds in 2005.
Other relatives preceding her in death who were special to her include her cousin Helen Steele, who was like a sister; Helen’s mother Vesta Johnson; and sisters-in-law Vera and Betty Winkleman; plus many other cherished relatives.
Survivors include her two children and their spouses, Jack and Kathaleen Winkleman of Kirksville, and Linda and Chris Boultinghouse of Greentop; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Pat and Taylor Winkleman of Kirksville; Lisa and Don Eitel of DeKalb, Ill.; B.J. Winkleman of Kirksville; Josh and Lynn Winkleman of Eden Prairie, Minn.; Sarah and Dustin Myers of Redwood Falls, Minn.; Brian and Cindy Boultinghouse of Greentop; Regan and John Townsend of Boise, Idaho; twelve great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Zachary Winkleman, Peyton and Kelsea Eitel, Brandon Johnson and Jessica Jensen, Jayden and Jaime Winkleman, Casen, Halle and Carter Myers; and Devon Townsend; and one great-great-granddaughter, Rosaleigh Jensen.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville. Visitation with family will be held one hour before the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at the East Center Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the East Center Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.

Margaret was a very special person. My mother, Helen Steele was a 1st cousin but she grew up with Margaret and did consider her a “sister”. Our family was blessed to have her for 95 years. My thoughts and prayers are with those who will feel the loss of her passing.
