Cecil Harold Taylor, 93, of La Plata, Missouri, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, Missouri.
Born October 11, 1932 in La Plata, Missouri, Cecil was the son of Virgil John and Carrie A. (Bisted) Taylor. On May 19, 1955 in Kirksville, Missouri, Cecil was united in marriage to Leta "Lorene" Houghton who preceded him in death on February 9, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, John "Wesley" Rehm II; two sisters; and four brothers.
Cecil is survived by one son, Mark Taylor of La Plata, MO; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanine and Lloyd Thornburg of Packwood, IA, and Teresa and John Rehm of Kirksville, MO; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Cecil resided most of his life in the La Plata area and was a graduate from La Plata High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After returning home, he was employed seventeen years for Kewanee, worked for ConAgra in Macon, and last had a lawn mowing service. He enjoyed fishing and carpentry work.
Cecil was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Kirksville.
Public visitation will be held Thursday, January 15, 2026 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. service time in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Raymond Magruder and Pastor Todd Borgmann officiating. Interment will follow the service at Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville.
