Virginia Lee (Quint) Athon

-

Virginia Lee Athon (96) left her earthly home peacefully on August 22, 2025, in Kirksville, MO holding her grandson’s hand. She was born on May 9, 1929, in Green Castle, MO to Victor Hugo and Ruth Gertrude (Ledford) Quint.

On August 2, 1962, Virginia married the love of her life, Everett Athon. They shared many wonderful years together until his passing on June 4, 2006. She is preceded in death by her, husband Everett Athon; daughter Vickie Hogan; son Terry Athon; grandchildren Bradley Athon, Brandy Athon and Christina Airaghi.

She is survived by her children Gary Lee Yadon (Doris), Gary Athon (Margaret), Jean Campbell (Jim), and Robert Athon (Lisa).

She was a devoted grandmother to: Kimberly Stewart (Kevin), Aaron Toates (Karen), Phillip Toates (Whitney), Heather Camilletti (Dirk), Scott Conner (Amanda), Scott Wayne Hamlin (Amanda), Jonathon Hogan, Allison Hogan, Alisha Hogan, Zach Hogan, Brandon Athon (Lacey), Celeste Athon, Kadie Obert (Nich), Tyson Snyder, Lindsey Snyder, Steve Robinson (Chris), Kristin Colter (Keith), Marcy Maddox (Steve), Michelle Allen (Robert), Sherry Athon, and Shelly Mason (Larry).

Virginia found her greatest joy in her growing family. She was blessed with 40 great-grandchildren and 30 great-great grandchildren—and was thrilled to know two more were on the way. Her face would light up whenever they called, visited, or simply shared their lives with her.

She cherished her flowers, her faithful dog Buddy, and visiting with friends and neighbors. A longtime member of the Green Castle Methodist Church, Virginia attended regularly and found strength in her faith. She retired from Hollister in Kirksville, MO, and was known for bringing her famous homemade chicken and noodles to family reunions.

Virginia was deeply involved in her community. She worked tirelessly in her garden, volunteered at the polls, and wrote a column for local newspapers. In 2022, she was honored to serve as Grand Marshal for the Green Castle Labor Day Parade—a memory she treasured.

Known for her kind and compassionate heart, Virginia welcomed all with warmth and without judgment. She was called Mom, Grandma, Aunt, and Friend—and those blessed to know her will forever hold her in their hearts.

The family would like to give special thanks to Brandon, Lacey and Stephanie for always answering her calls and offering support whenever needed.

Visitation will be held at 12:00 p.m., with funeral services following at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville. Doug Athon will officiate.
