Brenda Louise Austin, 71, of Kirksville, Missouri passed away Sunday, May 4, 2025 at her home.

She was born February 21, 1954 in Cainsville, Missouri, the daughter of Turner and Helen (Bears) Austin.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Sharon Austin.

She is survived by one daughter, Amanda (Caleb) Sikes of Seneca, Missouri; two brothers, Jim (Megan) Austin of Donnellson, Iowa, and Mike (Kathy) Austin of Ethel, Missouri; two grandsons, Gabe and Joshua Sikes; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Brenda was a graduate of La Plata High School with the Class of 1972. Later she obtained a Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in nursing. Brenda was employed as an Associate Professor of Nursing at Truman State University at the time of her passing. She had a passion for nursing and took great pride in teaching future nurses. The many lives she touched in the nursing profession are countless, and she has left a hole in the nursing world.

She enjoyed singing, gardening, watching basketball and, most of all, spending time with her grandsons. Brenda was a member of the United Trinity Church Assembly of God in Macon, Missouri.

Brenda’s love of family and nursing was secondary to her love of Jesus and serving Him. She loved serving her church in any capacity.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.
