Sheryl Jean (VanDyke) Darnell, 70, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away peaccefully after a courageous two year battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family in her daughter's home on Saturday, March 22, 2025.

Born June 16, 1954 in Elmer, Missouri, Sheryl was the daughter of the late George Hagenbart and Mary Corabelle (Corbin) VanDyke. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Junior VanDyke, and one sister, Betty Saner. On January 19, 1995 in Kirksville, Missouri, Sheryl was united in marriage to Howard Darnell who preceded her in death on December 2, 2014.

Sheryl had a unwavering love for her family, and her warm spirit touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed by her children and several nieces and nephews, who adored her. Among them, her niece Marilyn Blickham held a special place in her heart and was devotedly by her side throughout her journey, providing unwavering support and companionship until the very end. Despite her illness, Sheryl's resilience and love for her family shone brightly, leaving behind cherished memories that will be treasured forever by one son, Jeremy VanDyke of Brashear, MO; one daughter, Sonya Ray of Kirksville, MO; one brother, Ronald VanDyke; one sister, Nellie Burriss; as well as two grandchildren, Kelby Dale Ray and Kenadie Sue Ray.

Sheryl was employed for Jim Robertson Chevrolet, Kirksville Yamaha/Honda, and last for Weber Bus Company until her retirement in 2023. She enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends.

Sheryl's wish was to be cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements were taken care of by Travis-Noe Funeral Home of Kirksville.
