Ann D. (Gabrys) Casper
-
Ann Casper (93) left this earth on February 8, 2025 at the Pines in Kirksville, MO where she had been recovering from cancer surgery.
She was the daughter of Bert and Anna Gabrys and the youngest of 10 children, Lou Gabrys, Kay Gabrys, Frank Gabrys, John Gabrys, Alex Gabrys, Mary Zaborowski, Regina Szemraj, Stanley Gabrys, and Lottie Rogers. She will join her husband Harold who died in 2020.
Ann was the Matriarch of her large family and the last living of her 10 brothers and sisters. She will be missed by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many, many nieces and nephews. Ann leaves a large legacy behind including her son Tom Casper of Bloomfield MI and daughter Carol Baiotto of Kirksville MO; grandchildren Theresa Baiotto and husband Hans Flinch of Jackson WY, Bert Baiotto and wife Stephanie Baiotto of Littleton CO, Andrea and husband Jeremy Dorris of Lakeside CA, and Leah Bell and husband Jared Bell of Brashear; great grandchildren Jurnie Dorris, William Baiotto, Giana Baiotto, Peyton Dorris, Hans Otto Flinch, Estelle Flinch, Wade Bell and Addilynn Bell.
Ann was raised on a farm in Lublin WI. Following the death of her mother when she was 12, she moved to Chicago and lived with her sisters Kay and Lottie. Ann graduated from Schurz High School in Chicago in 1948. She met Harold, or as she called him Cas, when in Junior High School, and they were united in marriage on March 7,1951. Shortly after marrying, Harold was deployed to Korea, and Ann did not talk to him for 2 years, the hardest time of her life. After Harold returned from the service, they moved to Rolling Meadows IL where they lived for 30 years.
Ann began working in offices when she was 15 while going to school, and after graduation she began working in the field of accounting. She opened her own bookkeeping service in the 1970s and continued it until moving to Kirksville where she and Harold retired to enjoy their grandchildren. She attributed her longevity to her water aerobics classes that she did until October when her health began to decline.
Ann will be remembered for her kindness and outpouring of love she showered on family and friends. She made lasting friendships throughout her life, friends she had for 75 years, Rolling Meadows friends, Kirksville friends, and also her new friends she made at the nursing home among the staff and residents.
Family will receive friends on Sunday, February 16, 2025 from 6-8 pm at the Travis Noe Funeral home, 1008 Potter Ave in Kirksville. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Monday, February 17, 2025 at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 716 E Washington St in Kirksville.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to Mary Immaculate Catholic Cemetery, and may be left at the church or may be mailed to Travis Noe Funeral Home, PO Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
