Marilyn (West) McVay of Kirksville, Missouri passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at Northeast Regional Medical Center surrounded by family.
Marilyn was the daughter of Glen and Alice (Chrisman) West, born on March 31, 1951. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband whom she married on January 30, 1972 has also passed. Four brothers: Daniel West, Donald West, Leon West and Christopher West; one sister: Glenda (West) Flynn; three nephews: Kevin Wood, Nathan Dunlap and Devin West; two nieces: Jennifer (West) Miller and Melinda West; and sister-in-law: Diane West. One great niece: Dakota McClelland. one grand daughter: Breanne Blake.
Marilyn is survived by her four children: William "Billy" (Michelle) McVay, Melanie Varona (Eugene Hatfield), Michael (Sara) McVay and Matthew McVay Breedlove; twelve grandchildren: Dawn McVay, Jessica (Austin) Penick, Shelton McVay, Sonny Hatfield, Tori Hatfield, Matthew Hatfield, Alex McVay, Andrew McVay, Emberly Breedlove, Meradith Heimer, Emma Heimer, and Kale Heimer; and great grandchildren. Three brothers: Ed West, Noah West, and Leland (Tamara) West; Seven sisters: Carolyn (Jim) Bragg, Linda (Wesley) Alertsen, Sandra (Marvin) Capps, Joan (Gary) Stichter, Joyce (Mikel) Mason, Doris (Curtis) VonSoosten, and Sheila West; brother-in-law: Marvin Flynn; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Marilyn attended Kirksville School, where she enjoyed learning and playing the violin. She had worked in her early years and then became a stay at home wife and mother. Marilyn loved most of all was spending time with her family (children and grandchildren and great grandchildren) and her friends. She enjoyed watching nature, drawing and watching her westerns on TV. Marilyn had an easy-going nature about her and almost always had a pet dog. Marilyn was a religious woman who believes in the 10 commandments. When she was young if she could recite the 10 commandments to her father she was rewarded with a silver dollar. Marilyn loved writing short stories and she truly enjoyed caring for her many plants. Marilyn was very cultured and loved museums, music and art but was a very grounded and down to earth person.
Visitation with family will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2025, with services at 2:00 p.m. at Travis Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville. Richard Haines will officiate the service and burial will follow at the Forest-Llewellyn Cemetery in Kirksville.
Memorial donations in memory of Marilyn may be made to her son, William Olin McVay Jr. and may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
