Lona Jeanette (Hopper) Matheney, 78, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2025 at the University Missouri Hospital in Columbia, MO.

The daughter of the late Allen Lee and Margaret Lea (Crabtree) Hopper, Lona was born November 3, 1946 in Milan, MO. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Allen and David Hopper. On June 6, 1965 in Kirksville, Missouri, Lona was united in marriage to Bobby Matheney.

Lona is survived by her husband Bobby of sixty years; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert "Rob" and Lori Matheney of Columbia, MO; one daughter Angela Stoker of Columbia, MO; one sister, Evelyn Brewer of Kirksville, MO; six grandchildren, Secley Kennedy, Andrew Matheney, Madison Matheney, MacKenzi Matheney, Haylea Stoker, and Garrick Stoker; four great-grandchildren, Brayden Matheney, Bristol Kennedy, Brinley Matheney, and Adley Matheney; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Lona was a graduate from LaPlata High School with the Class of 1962. She was employed a number of years in the billing department at KOH Hospital, later for Kirksville Rural Water, and last for Gleason Auto Parts.

Lona enjoyed vacations with Bobby and going to the casinos. She loved her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with all her heart and soul.

Lona was a member of Hamilton Street Baptist Church of Kirksville.

Public visitation will be held from noon to 2:00 p.m. service time Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Pastor Virgil Jones officiating.

Private family Interment will be held on Monday, January, 27, 2025 at the Missouri State Veteran's Cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Matheney, Brayden Matheney, Rob Kennedy, Garrick Stoker, Brian Hopper, and Tom Martens. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Meredith and Link Maggart.

Memorial donations in memory of Lona may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital and may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
