Glen Laverne Darr, known affectionately as "Sonny" , 89, of Novinger, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville. Born on November 27, 1934 to Eula Fern Daniels and Russell G. Darr, Sonny was a lifelong resident of Adair County.
Sonny was a graduate of Kirksville High School and worked several jobs in his younger years such as Producers Creamery, Auto Sales Company, Meadow Gold route salesman, Ron Reed Construction and his favorite occupation was farming.
On October 30, 1954 Sonny married his beloved wife Leona Ratliff in a ceremony in Kirksville, Missouri. Together they raised three sons, Brad (Debbie) Darr, Bruce (Robin) Darr all of Kirksville, MO, and Brent Darr of Columbia, MO who survive. Also surviving are his grandchildren Kyle (Emily), Brandon (Christina), Samantha (Eric), Blake, and Addison and great grandchildren, Mallory, Maddox, Mia and Mazie. He is also survived by his sister Doris Leidheiser and husband Charles of Aiken, South Carolina, sister-in-law Ora Lee Ratliff of Ft. Myers, FL, and brother-in-law, Don Ratliff of Chillicothe, MO. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Fern Darr, his father-in-law and mother-in-law Wayne and Belle Ratliff, his brother Richard "Dick" Darr, his sister Clara Ratliff, daughter-in-law Katie Darr, grandchildren Clay Darr and Michelle Darr.
In the past several years, Sonny's hobby was watching traffic and working surveillance on Highway 11 close to his home. Sonny loved to visit with friends and neighbors.
A public visitation to celebrate Sonny's life will be held Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, Missouri with funeral services to follow at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Philip Lyon will officiate the service and Sonny will be laid to rest at Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville.
Pallbearers will be Brad Darr, Bruce Darr, Brandon Darr, Kyle Darr, Blake Darr, and Bryan Miller.
Memorial donations in memory of Sonny may be made to Pratt Cemetery and may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.
