Mary Lee “Stoneking” Gardner, 96 of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Greentop, Mo, passed away at her home on May 14, 2024.

Born March 21, 1928, in Cantril, Iowa. Mary was the daughter of the late Marvin and Flossie (Pettit) Stoneking. Mary was united in marriage to the late Richard Eugene “Gene” Gardner on August 26, 1946, in La Plata, Missouri. He preceded her in death on January 18, 2018. They were married 71 years.

Mary is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law Bill and Diana Gardner, David Gardner, Richard A. Gardner and Steven and Donna Gardner, all of Davenport, Iowa. She had eleven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild, Sisters-in law Betty Eitel, Martha Woods, Rose Stoneking, brother and sister-in-law John and Weise Gardner, as well as, a number of nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, two sons Michael and one in infancy, a grandson Adam and a great-grandson, Carson, as well as a number of brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.

Mary worked for the Area Education Agency of Scott County, Iowa, as a Data Entry Clerk, retiring in 1990.

She and Gene loved to camp in their many campers, traveling to Blue Grass festivals and fishing with family and friends. She was a beautiful seamstress, loved to crochet and was a talented cake decorator. She enjoyed time with family and attended many family reunions in the Greentop-Kirksville, MO. area.

She will be remembered for her kindness, quick sense of humor and caring nature for her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2024 with family receiving friends from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. service time in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville. Pastor Virgil Jones will officiate the service and interment will follow the service at Queen City Cemetery in Queen City, MO.
