Crystal Arlene (Clay) Douglas passed away Sunday, March 31, 2024 at The Pines with her family by her side. The daughter of James Arlie and Otha Marie (Elam) Clay she was born on March 4, 1937 in Green City, MO. On October 13, 1961 in Kirksville, MO she was united in marriage to Donald William Douglas who preceded her in death on July 8, 2002.
Crystal is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Brenda Magruder of Kirksville, Lisa (John) Blodgett of Kearney, MO. Also surviving are five grandchildren including Jennifer (Scott) Schroeder, Kearney, MO, Karissa (Brett) Bryant, Columbia, MO, Emily Blodgett & Josh Hartzell of Kansas City, MO, Katie Blodgett & Chuck Nord of Kansas City, MO and Hunter Blodgett of Kearney, MO. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Drake & Peighton Schroeder of Kearney, MO and Konnor Bryant of Columbia, MO.
Crystal is also survived by a brother, Vernon (Mary) Clay of Fort Dodge, Iowa and a sister, Karen (Dr. Donald) Schoonover of Nixa, MO as well as numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece and nephew, Frank and Sharon May who were so good to check on Mom daily the last few years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Donald and son-in-law Roger Magruder on September 7, 2020, brother Verlin Clay on November 19, 2020 and a sister, Carolyn in infancy. She was also preceded in death by a special friend, Richard (Dale) McCollum in February 2023.
Crystal attended school in Green City, MO and graduated from Green City R-1 with the class of 1955. Crystal worked at McGraw Edison when she first moved to Kirksville until 1968. She provided childcare in her home until Lisa began school. She was then employed at Florsheim Shoe Factory until she retired in 1999. After retirement, Crystal and Donald worked at the Bruce Normile Juvenile Justice Center for a few years.
Crystal and Donald enjoyed camping with friends, playing cards and going to dances at the Moose Lodge and VFW. She also enjoyed following her daughters and grandchildren in their many activities. In retirement she enjoyed traveling with friends, many trips to Branson with Dale and attending many dances. Crystal always took a lot of pride in her housekeeping and decorating. She enjoyed having her family home for the holidays and was also a great cook.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Travis Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, MO, with pastor Virgil Jones presiding. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 1:00 pm with funeral to follow. Burial will be in Maple Hills Cemetery in Kirksville, MO following the service.
Pallbearers include John Blodgett, Hunter Blodgett, Scott Schroeder, Brett Bryant, Josh Hartzell and Chuck Nord.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to be made to the Crystal Douglas Memorial Fund. Donations will be used to support local cancer patients and may be left or mailed to Travis Noe Funeral Home, Kirksville, MO.
