Evelyn Bernice (Byers) Crossgrove of Novinger, MO, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
Evelyn was born May 2, 1936 in Stahl, Missouri, the daughter of Royal and Edna (Wiles) Byers. She was united in marriage on August 10, 1955, in Brashear, MO, to Arthur Dale Crossgrove, who survives.
Evelyn is also survived by three sons, James Dale Crossgrove of Greentop, Missouri; Paul Levi Crossgrove and wife Melissa of Queen City, MO; and Joel Keith Crossgrove and wife Sarah of Greentop; one daughter, Leona Carol Roskamp of Greentop; two sisters, Helena McFarland and Ilene Umphress, both of Ottumwa, IA; fourteen grandchildren: Jonathon (Joni) Crossgrove and Marcus (Becca) Crossgrove of Hallsville, MO; Alli Murphy of Kirksville; Dillon Crossgrove and Lance Crossgrove of Peculiar, MO; Angela (Katie) Summers of St. Charles, MO; Kyle Roskamp and Kelli Roskamp of Sutter, IL; Brittany Crossgrove of Moberly, MO; Katelyn Crossgrove of Overland Park, KS; Nicholas (Dannon) Crossgrove and Jada Crossgrove of Queen City; and Ellie Schmitzer and Laura Schmitzer of Greentop, along with six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son John Mark Crossgrove, and brother Darwin Byers. Evelyn lived most of her life in Putnam County, Missouri, remaining on the same farm since 1961. She received her education in the Low Ground Grade School and Unionville and Kirksville High Schools. Evelyn was a member of Hazel Creek Free Will Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, collecting stamps, attending church, and spending time with family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2024 at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville with Tim Hodges and Rick Chapman presiding. Private interment will follow in a family plot on the family farm.
Public visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, March 13, 2024, in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Carrol Harden, Matt Chrisman, Jon McNay, Joshua Gerena, Harley Maize, and Steve Findling.
