Karen had a huge love of animals, especially her two surviving dogs Coco and Pippa.
From infancy, Karen, her mother, and sister Conny lived with several aunts and uncles while her father was serving overseas in World War II so she never met her father until she was a year and a half old.
As a child, the siblings would receive a bag of candy on Saturday nights to be divided six ways. After getting her portion, Karen would save hers to eat later to tantalize her siblings after theirs was gone. Even to this day, Karen was always known for hoarding stashes of candy and eating it in front of her brothers and sister to tease them.
She met Roger while he was in Kirksville serving in the Air Force, after her mother warned her to stay away from the base. During the early years of their marriage, they lived in numerous locations due to Roger’s service. Karen would work jobs at various banks and other odd jobs.
In 1976, Roger and Karen moved to Keokuk, Iowa and opened The Palace nightclub, which they operated for nearly twenty years.
After they closed The Palace, they relocated back to Kirksville where Karen most recently held a position at the Kirksville License Office for many years until she retired due to poor health.
Karen loved working with people and was a very giving person who would do anything for anyone.
