Melvin Laverne Mahurin, 81, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Boone Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

Melvin was born October 11, 1942, the son of late Wilfred Merrel and Cleta Mae (Roberts) Mahurin. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Linda Abernathy and his brother, Dean Mahurin. On June 29, 1974 Melvin married Sherry Stark who still resides at their home in Kirksville.

He is also survived by one sister, Judy Blakely and husband Don of TX; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great nephews, as well as three stepchildren, eight step-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Melvin was a graduate from Kirksville High School with the Class of 1961. He then served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a Army specialist 4. After returning home, Melvin ran a milk route for many years before running a sanitation truck route for years. His greatest love was for farming the family farm Northeast of town. He had a great love for all animals.

It was Melvin's wish to be cremated and no service be held. He will be inurned at a late date at Mulberry Cemetery beside his parents.
