Edward Kaiwi Morton Jr., 74, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly on Friday the 11th of March in his home. Ed, the son of Edward and Elizabeth (Pihana) Morton, was born August 13th, 1947, in Honolulu, HI.
Ed served his country with pride as a member of the United States Air Force for over nine years, including the Vietnam War. He accumulated many medals and awards over the course of his military career. Upon leaving the Air Force, he pursued a degree in computer technology which he enjoyed doing.
Ed was a son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He loved his family immensely. Ed was twice united in matrimony. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Cindy Sue (Kellison) Morton. Of that marriage came two children, Jennifer Sue (Morton) McGoldrick and Chad Edward Morton. Ed had three children and one stepson from a previous marriage, Sherry (Morton) Terfone, Doug Fontenot, Pam Morton and Karen Morton.
Those close to him knew him as a man of few words. He was wise and full of knowledge. All his friends say he was a good man. Fine woodworking and working with his hands were among some of his beloved hobbies. Besides Spam and rice, candy and snacks from Hawaii were his favorite. He played the Ukulele for his friends, family and especially the grandchildren. “Papa” was a child whisperer and could put the rowdiest to sleep.
Per Ed’s request, he will be cremated and returned to the ocean.
Ed was a loving grandpa, the best “papa” ever.
Graveside entombment with military rites will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2022 at the Missouri State Veteran's Cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri, under the direction of Travis-Noe Funeral Home of Kirksville.
