Jerilyn Kaye (Lockett) Overstreet, 59, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2020 after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Jeri is survived by her best friend and husband of 37 years, Rusty Ray Overstreet, and her loving son, Jeremiah Ray Overstreet. Jeri is the beloved daughter of Mary Virginia (Feldkamp) Lockett and the late James Franklin Lockett, dear sister of Sherri (Dick) Turner, Jim (Patty) Lockett, Edie (Gene) Amico, and Wendelin (Jeff) Funnell, sister-in-law of Linda (Ron) Manning, and cherished Aunt of Amy (Lucas) White, Ryan (Kailee) Turner, Michael Lockett, Allison Lockett, Lauren Amico, Hannah Kendzor, Tracy Lawrence, great-aunt to Mae White, Anna White, Skyler Lawrence and Dalton Lawrence.
Jeri grew up in St. Louis, attended Northeast State University (Truman State University) in Kirksville, earning her BS in Elementary Education and her Masters in Education from UMSL.
Jeri built a legacy as a lifelong educator, teaching not only curriculum, but love, caring and respect in the classroom, while encouraging and affirming each and every student that she taught in the elementary schools in the Princeton, Novelty, Edina and Kirksville School Districts.
Jeri has been a loving, loyal friend and bright light to family and friends alike with her kindness, wisdom, quick wit and quirky sense of humor. We especially treasure and will miss her creative poetry and odes on toilet paper written for special occasions. Above everything, she enjoyed spending time with her family and cherished the memories they all made together over the years. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
