Don Edward Clay, 101, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2020 at Knox County Nursing Home in Edina, Missouri.
Don was born June 14, 1919 in Worthington, Missouri, the son of Samuel Sampson and Dosie Ann (Clark) Clay. On February 13, 1948 in Kirksville, Missouri, Don was united in marriage to Anna Potter who preceded him in death in 2000. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and five sisters.
Don is survived by one son, Mike (Debbie) Clay of Washington, IL; two daughters, Barbara (Raymond) Pinkerton and Rosalee (Gale) Rusk both of Brashear, MO; five grandchildren Tina (Mike) Hines, Matt Clay, Erin Clay, Rashanea (Ryan) Rusk and Linsey (Chuck) Zuccarini; five great-grandchildren, and four great great-grandchildren.
Don served his country in the United States Army from November 6, 1945 to February 16, 1947 as a S/SGT, receiving Marksman (Pistol), Sharpshooter (SMG), and the Good Conduct Medal. He resided in Putnam and Adair counties and worked as a mechanic in small engine repair. Don was employed for Phil Barrett Equipment, for Mark Simler at Troy Mills and for him self. He loved fishing, hunting, playing cards, working on small engines, and going to the Casino's.
Don has been cremated and a service with military honors will take place at a later date at Forest-Llewellyn Cemetery in Kirksville.
