John Robert Dodson, 90, from Kirksville passed away July 12, 2017 at his home in Springfield, Missouri surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born the son of the late Dr. John F. and Phoebe (Sloan) Dodson.

John is survived by his wife Peggy of 69 years; his three children Jeffrey Dodson and wife Victoria, Janet Lumby and husband Michael and John M. Dodson and wife Cindi; his two sisters Gerry Mills and Francis Oertel and husband Richard; and his beloved grandchildren, Sunni, Justin, Gabriel, Jacob, Nathan, Bethany, Caleb, Adrian, Ian, Austin and Evan and their families including fourteen cherished great-grandchildren.

John served in the US Navy during World War II and the Korean War and was part of the crew who completed tests for the atomic bomb. He was a mechanic for Trans World Airlines for 31 years in Kansas City. John was a member of the Ararat Shrine and enjoyed helping others. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and always found projects to keep him busy.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Novinger Cemetery in Novinger, MO.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, July 16, 2017 from 1:30 p.m. to service time in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Justin Lumby, Gabriel Lumby, Nathan Dodson, Caleb Dodson, Adrian Dodson, Evan Sthole, Austin Sthole and Adam Voight. Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Lumby and Ian Sthole.
