Janet Kay (Kerby) Abel, 60, of Kirksville, Missouri passed away unexpectedly Thursday, November 24, 2016 at her home. She was born November 19, 1956 in Kirksville, MO, the daughter of Gerald E. and Boneta V. (Anderson) Kerby.

Janet is survived by her mother, Boneta Kerby of Glenwood, MO, significant other, Edwin Parrish of Kirksville, MO, daughter Megan Abel and significant other James Wallace of Kirksville, MO, daughter Nicole Cope and husband Tim of Kansas City, MO, and two grandchildren Madelyn Wallace and Macaila Wallace. She is also survived by her three brothers, Randall, Ronald and Mark as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Gerald "Pedro" Kerby.

Janet grew up in Schuyler County graduating from Schuyler R-I in 1974 and then Iowa Methodist School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1977. She loved being a nurse and continued in the field all of her life.

Her passions were her family, friends, and improving quality of life for seniors in care. She loved the St. Louis Cardinals, reading and being on the water.

Family will receive friends Monday (November 28, 2016) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday (November 29, 2916) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home with Sonny Smyser presiding.
