Martha Joan (Shull) Mayberry, 80, of Columbia, Missouri, formerly of Kirksville, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Columbia Manor Care in Columbia.
The daughter of Arlo Chester and Mary Irene (Engler) Shull, she was born December 21, 1934 in Sac City, Iowa. On June 21, 1954, Joan was united in marriage to Clifford Boyd Mayberry.
Joan is survived by her husband of Clifford of 61 years; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Brent Mayberry of Kirksville, MO, Bryce and Julie Mayberry of Jamestown, North Carolina, and Brad Mayberry of Columbia, MO; three daughters and sons-in-law, Leslie and Tom Schneider of Columbia, MO, Josi and Mike Harris of Sherwood, AR, and Sabrina and Dan Dolan of Bloomington, MN; four brothers; three sisters; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and one sister.
Joan was a graduate from Sac City High School in Sac City, Iowa, with the Class of 1953 and received a BS degree at Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Missouri, in 1973. Joan resided fifty years in Kirksville, Missouri, where she was Public Administrator twelve years.
Joan was past Vice President of Missouri Citizens for the Arts, past Board member of Directors of Red Cross, member of Beta Sigma Phi Chapter Missouri Laureate Omega, member of Women of the Moose Chapter 824, and member of First United Methodist Church where she had been active in the Women's Society.
It was Joan's wish to be cremated and a memorial service to honor her life will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 7, 2015 at First United Methodist Church in Kirksville, with Pastor Richard Northcutt officiating.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church for one hour before the memorial service at 3:00 p.m.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Joan Mayberry may be made to the NEMO Playground. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO, or left at the First United Methodist Church the day of the memorial service.
