Mona "Maxine" (Scott) Reese, 89, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Friday, October 23, 2015, surrounded by her family, at Northeast Regional Medical Center.
The daughter of Jasper W. and Sylvia Z. (Lay) Scott, she was born April 18, 1926 in Kirksville, Missouri. Maxine was united in marriage to Kermitt Reese on December 23, 1945 in Novinger, Missouri.
Maxine is survived by two daughters; Vicki Darr (husband Joe) of Basehor, Kansas and Robin Miller (husband Curt) of Wildwood Missouri; a daughter-in-law, Shelley Reese of Kirksville, Missouri; two granddaughters; Marcia Hornung (husband Shawn) of Manhattan, Kansas and Lindsay Darr of Tonganoxie, Kansas. Also surviving are great-granddaughters, Carrie Husband and Ava Hornung.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Pauline Scott, two sons, Steven Wayne Reese in infancy and Eric Reese in 2006.
Maxine graduated from both Novinger High School and Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State University). She taught in Adair County Rural Schools and Kirksville Public Schools until her retirement. She had many interests including being a 4-H leader, gardening, growing flowers, reading, crafting, and helping her husband on the farm.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Illinois Bend Christian Church and in recent years, First Church of God in Kirksville.
Maxine was a woman of strong faith and always believed that all things were possible when you believe and strive for them and instilled this in her children, family members, and hundreds of students that she taught over the years in grade school and as a Sunday School teacher. Like her father, Maxine also frequently shared her love for telling stories with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.
Public visitation will be held Monday, October 26, 2015, with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Travis-Noe Funeral Home with Reverend Scott Grogg officiating. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, south of Novinger.
Pallbearers will be Shawn Hornung, Marlin Potter, Andrew Brantner, Gayle Scott, Ed Scott and Roy Turner.
