Joy Dawn (McKim) Reesman

-

Joy Dawn (McKim) Reesman was born September 5, 1966 and departed this life on January 8, 2015 from a short illness.

Joy was born the sixth child of Ronald and Rosetta (Carman) McKim. She is survived by two brothers, Steven McKim and wife Lorrie and Tom McKim and wife Davena; three sisters, Ronna Magruder and husband Raymond, Joni Wilson and husband Tad, and Janie Hurley; one daughter, Erica Speiser and husband Dylan, and the pride and joy of her life, her three grandsons, Rylan, Wyatt and Dayne Speiser; fourteen nieces and nephews, as well as seventeen great nieces and nephews.

Joy was a 1984 graduate from Kirksville High School and a 2005 graduate from Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. She was working towards getting her Masters Degree. Joy had worked very hard on her degree and was dully elected and inducted into the NU Lambda Chapter of Columbia College as well as made the Dean’s List and Alpha Sigma Lambda National Honor Society.

Joy’s passion besides her grandchildren were camping, sitting around a campfire and boating on the lake at Thousand Hills. She loved to cook, bake, and had many friends and family who requested her specialty fudge. Joy made many different varieties but her family’s favorite was her chocolate fudge.

Joy played games with her grandchildren and loved taking them camping. Joy will be remembered for her unique sense of humor and her great love for her family. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

It was Joy’s wish to be cremated and a public visitation will be held on Sunday (January 11, 2015) from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Faith United Methodist Church in Kirksville. A memorial service to celebrate Joy’s life will follow visitation at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Raymond Magruder officiating.

“To some she was the black sheep of her family, to others she was a shinning light. She was simply a woman who trusted her internal compass and had the courage to live her life by her own rules.”

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Joy Reesman Memorial Fund. Memorials may be left at Faith United Methodist Church on Sunday or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.

Arrangements were taken care of by Travis-Noe Funeral Home of Kirksville.

You oh you. My sweet amazing aunt Joy. You brought me nothing but Joy when I saw you. I remember being so shattered by your death. i’m older now still shattered. But you taught me to always be myself and to follow what I love no matter what to do what is gonna make me happy and feel fulfilled in life. When I was a kid you were there since 2015 you haven’t been 11 years. I still think about you and your words and actions guide me through life. I’ll never be able to thank you for that. But just know I am so thankful for the time I had with you the love you showed me the fun we had all of the adventures. You were taken too soon. I have a little brother now. I love him he is cool but I just know you would have adored him. I don’t know i’m rambling but I really love and miss you. The hugs. The fudge. The music and the singing along. Sitting on the porch with you on your lap observing the adults and kids while we all gathered as a family. I love you and I’ll never forget you or stop missing you. -S (your pooh bear)
