Virginia Irene (Robinson) Muir, 93, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away Friday (January 2, 2015) at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.

Born April 16, 1921 in rural Adair County near Nind, Missouri the daughter of William H. and Dessie (Griffin) Robinson. On December 31, 1938, Virginia was united in marriage to Thomas Edison Muir, in the Kirksville Presbyterian Church by Reverend Pyron McMillen. Thomas preceded her in death September 24, 1993.

She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter Joyce Ann Muir, July 18, 1943, father, September of 1970, mother, June of 1992, brother, Billie G. Robinson on March 1964, sister, Betty Williams on February 2007, grandparents, William A. Robinson, October 1944 and Georgia Robinson, July of 1951 who raised her from age four, and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Robinson in 2014.

Virginia is survived by three daughters Colleen (Muir) Allen of Kirksville, MO; Sara Beth Muir of Manhattan Beach, CA; Marilyn Joanne Muir of Independence, MO; one brother, Bobby L. Robinson of Wheat Ridge, CO; six grandchildren Alan Linder and wife Brenda; Sherri (Linder) Lindquist, Jeanna (Linder) Delgado and husband Steve, Jon Muir and wife Krista, Sabrina Mitchell, and Jill (Mitchell) Chainey and husband Dewayne; eight great grandchildren, Andrea Lindquist, Joshua Lindquist, Maria, Kara and Nicholas Delgado, Koby Linder, and Calvin and Sophia Virginia Chainey; two great-great grandchildren, Carson Lindquist and Kaelyn Robinson; eight step grandchildren, Angie, Corla, Vicki, Mary (deceased) Todd, Bart, Doug (deceased) and John B, Allen; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Virginia received her education in South Gifford School and graduated from LaPlata High School with the Class of 1939. She and her husband moved to a farm in Adair County South of Green Castle, Missouri, in 1939 where they raised Angus cattle. After the passing of her husband in 1993, Virginia moved to Kirksville to make her home.

Virginia was baptized into South Gifford Christian Church in 1932. Transferred membership to the Novinger Methodist Church in 1981, and transferred her membership to Kirksville Presbyterian Church on January 14, 2001.

She was a private piano teacher for sixty years, was an active member of Ophelia Circle in the Methodist Church, was a deaconess in the Presbyterian Church, and belonged to Presbyterian Women. After moving to Kirksville, Virginia volunteered with the RSVP program. She was Secretary of the Ringo Point Cemetery Board for twenty years, treasurer of the Adair County Democratic Club for ten years, and had been a jewel in the El Kadir Shrine since 1974.

Virginia will always be remembered for her special God given talent of playing the piano by ear starting at the age of three. Although she studied classical music and gave private piano lessons for fifty years. Virginia was always happy to play the Golden Oldies for family, friends and for the Novinger Labor Day Celebration.

Public visitation is in progress and family will receive friends this evening, Monday (January 5, 2015) from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday (January 6, 2015) at Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, with Pastor Mike McCormich officiating. Interment will follow the service at Green Castle Cemetery in Green Castle, Missouri.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and granddaughters. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Sanders, Scott Thatcher, John Settlage, John Rowe, Walter Hannah, Jimmie Howell, Larry Harlan, Harry Hill, Glen Eitel, John Eitel and Robert Guffey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kirksville First Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Travis-Noe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 306, Kirksville, MO 63501.

So sorry I cannot be there. Thank you for including the Allens in the obituary. I loved her so very much and will always have such fond loving memories of her and grandad. Piano lessons where really just my way of having grandmother and grandad to myself once a week! Lol I will forever treasure those moments.There are so many things I never would have learned had it not been for grandmother and grandad taking the time and love and patience to teach me. Love you all and am praying for peace and comfort for you all.
